My own journey into mentorship began during my postdoctoral training. I had the incredible opportunity to guide and supervise brilliant minds, but let's be honest, it was a bumpy ride! I made my share of mistakes, learned from them (sometimes the hard way!), and kept pushing forward, always striving to be a better mentor.
These experiences sparked a real passion in me, and I actively sought ways to hone my mentorship skills. With no formal training available, I forged my path, guided by my instincts and values. Over time, I adapted many soft and leadership strategies to create my own mentorship style. Through experience and constant reflection, I found the kind of mentor (or captain, if you will!) I am, and how to best leverage my knowledge to support new students, scientists, or anyone setting sail on their career.
The Mentor-Ship was born from the realization that, like me, many feel a bit lost at sea when it comes to mentorship. Here, I will share the resources and tools I have gathered to help you find your true north as a mentor.
Now, if you are a mentee, this space is absolutely for you too! In fact, it is dedicated to you. We are all both mentors and mentees at different points in our lives, and often, at the same time. I have set aside a special part of this platform for you "skippers" (yes, mentees!), to help you make the most of your time with your mentor. You will find practical tips on navigating these relationships, and strategies that foster meaningful and productive mentor-mentee interactions. You can even get a head start on learning how to be a mentor yourself!
Along our journey, we will drop anchor at various ports where other captains will share their mentorship experiences. The goal? To build a vibrant community where we can exchange lessons, challenges, and maybe even spark new collaborations to strengthen the art of mentorship.
So, let's set sail! Through calm seas and stormy weather, we will embrace this adventure together.

There is no single "right" path, but there are ways to navigate this relationship effectively. Mentorship can be one of the most rewarding learning experiences for everyone involved.
